This folded lettersheet / stampless letter has a circular date stamp for EXETER, a matching 5 cents rate, and is addressed to Hon. Frederick Vose, Walpole, and is a one page letter written by Jno. Sullivan. The dateline is Exeter July 19, 1851. Some abstracts: "I have omitted to write to you in relation to the Alstead road until I could have an opportunity to see Judge Bell at Court. To have written to him as you suggested would not have hastened the business as he was absent on his Circuit. From my conversation with him ...." "It should be a very strong case & attended by very extraordinary circumstances that would justify an officer in preventing the making of a road where judgment has been rendered against a town ..." Condition of the letter rates average. As usual with stampless letters, after writing on one or more sides of a sheet of paper, the letter was folded several times and mailed. Please note that most stampless letters have faults such file folds, tears at and opposite the sealing wax area, and some stains / wear / tear here and there.
