Unique and Rare Coal iron. Heavy. It weight 12 pounds. This iron was patented in 1852 before the Great Civil War. N. J. Taliaferro...E. Bless ... W.D. Cummings Patented in 1852. The names are in a circle around a large eagle . He is holding arrows in his claws. It has a gruesome head of a mad with long pointed ears. This pivots to reveal a vent hole. it has a large snorkel spout for the steam. It has a hard wooden handle. This old iron is in excellent condition for its age. I believe N. J. Taliaferro was from the Germantown Kentucky area in Bracken or M ason County Ky . He had other patents in his name from the time era. Near Maysville , Ky.
