Extremely rare pamphlet -- The Arrest, Trial and Acquittal of Abby Warner for Spirit Rapping . Written by Dr. Abel Underhill and published in 1852. This great little work took on national prominence in the 1850s when "spirit rapping" was gaining notoriety. Essentially, loud "raps" or noises/knocks were detected around certain people -- emblematic of nearby spirits. Abby Warner, a servant in the house of Mrs. Kellogg in Massillon, Ohio first noticed the raps. Additionally, Abby was found to be able to write with both hands simultaneously while the raps were detected. At a church service in 1851, the raps were so pronounced that Abby was arrested and tried for disturbing the tranquility of the church. She was found not guilty. This pamphlet describes the incident as well as the seances that were held to try and determine who/what might be making the rapping sounds. This is indeed a rare piece. It comes in its own custom made protective book. Being offered at a very rare starting price, this is an important work for collectors of the occult, paranormal activities, etc. -- especially of the mid-19th century. There are 32 pages in this booklet. Be sure to see my other listings as I'm always happy to combine shipping on multiple wins!
