With a frontispiece illustrations of The Great Salt Lake City. Sixteenth thousand. Usually attributed to either Mrs Benjamin Gilbert Ferris under the penname Mrs Maria Ward or her husband. However, recent scholarship has shown that they were not the author. A criticism of the mormon culture and its patriarchal structure, the introduction states: "Knowing, as I do know, the evils and horrors and abominations of the Mormon system, the degradation it imposes on females, and the consequent vices which extend through all the ramifications of the society, a sense of duty to the world has induced me to prepare the following narrative for the public eye" CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities, slight rubbing and the odd mark to boards. Hinges strained. Internally, generally firmly bound.
