Up for auction is a vintage 4 page letter datelined Farmersburgh, (Iowa). Jan. 16, 1855. Letter was written by Orville Reed. Letter mainly of a personal and what's going on nature....An Excerpt from the letter....... "......The Wisconsin empties on a little below McGregors Landing. he has two ferries at the mouth of the basin and one at the town...............There seems to be some rattlesnakes in that timber, and these big ravines and ledges. There was a man who stayed here last week who lives on Point Creek. 25 miles north, who is building a grist mill. He said he had killed 20 this season. One has 23 rattles was towards 10 feet long and very large. They are the yellow ones. There is not much game here on the prairie, except prairie chickens. There are deer in the wilder parts of the timber. One bear has been tracked. The prairie here is about 2 or 3 miles wide, then little groves of timber and prairie on the West as far as the eye can reach..........................."
