With so many people watching this coin on their watch list, I decided to relist it at a lower price. This listing is for a 1856 Seated Liberty Half Dime in AU+ condition... Several people have ask about the denticles mostly missing on the coin. This was actually very typical to the strike. Back in the mid 1800's coin striking had a weak at best quality control. These smaller dies had smaller detail and after many strike the dies begin to gum up with foreign material from each planchet. The process for the mint was to wire brush the foreign matter out of the die, but with these smaller dies it was difficult to get out. The result is that they continue striking even though some areas of the coin just doesn't struck up completely. Most grading companies use the siting of this to authenticate coins. I added 4 sample photos of some very high grade examples that are fresh out of the dies with no wear to show this is typical for the 1856-P Half Dime. The denticles missing have nothing to do with grading the coin as a matter of fact it is a diagnostic to variety authenticity.Note: the first 2 photos are of the coin for sale, the last 4 photos are from recent auctions and just for comparison use.
