This is the 1857 issue, representing the first official year for this issue. The coin itself is better than the photos suggest and shows wear commensurate with its age and use. The coin shows a flying eagle with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" surrounding it and the date below on the obverse. The reverse shows the denomination spelled out within a wreath. The coin is graded by NGC as Extremely Fine XF 45. This is a great looking coin and shows a beautiful design with no detectable problems. The coin comes in a plastic slap. These coins were designed by James Longacre and are becoming difficult to obtain in such a nice grade.
