Titled, California Life Illustrated , this is a great personal account of traveling in early California by the author William Taylor who also wrote Seven Years Street Preaching in San Francisco . Taylor was a preacher who went from town to town in California spreading the gospel. During his travels he kept detailed notes about the sights and experiences he had which is detailed in this book. An absolutely wonderful snapshot of many aspects of California life in 1858. This is a first edition, hardbound with cloth cover and printed in 1858 by Carlton & Porter, New York. It is 348 pages with 16 very nice, quality engravings. The chapters include : Missionary Life, Social life in California , Hospital Reminicences, Resources of California and Life Among the Miners. The condition is very good overall, with foxing at the corners and some no harm staining. All pages are complete with none missing and the binding is nice and tight. Printed on quality bond paper the book measures 5 1/4" x 7 1/2". If you like California history you will really like reading this book. Fourteen day return privilege guaranteed for money back.
