Very interesting folded letter franked with Great Britain 1/ Queen Victoria definitive tied "23" barred grid cancel, to Alep. Syria, red oval "PD" marking at right, Calais (France), Jul 16 1858, traveling post office transit postmark also at right, blue two line " Poste Francaise/ d'Alep" French post office in Alep, Syria, marking; (over) blue London, Jul 15 1858, origin postmark; Paris, Jul 16 1858, and Marseille, Jul 17 1858, transit postmarks. Content (in French), dated London, Jul 15 1858, concerns business matters. Stamp catalogs £350 (US$550+) on cover (Stanley Gibbons 2011).
