1859 Noah Webster's Dictionary 1st Illustrated Edition This is a quite nice, original 1859 Webster's Dictionary. [publisher: George and Charles Merriam, Springfield, Mass. 1859] This Rare Dictionary has a full brown leather cover, 5-raised bands, 2 very good black labels on spine and gold lettering. Bottom label states, "Pictorial Edition 1500 Illustrations". Dictionary has No previous owner's name on the inside cover. Dictionary is Dated 1859 at the base of the title page below the publishers. Title page states, "Containing the Whole Vocabulary of the First Edition in Two Volumes Quarto; the Entire Corrections and Improvements of the Second Edition in Two Volumes Royal Octavo" Title page also states, "To Which is Prefixed AN INTRODUCTORY DISSERTATION on the Origin, History and Connection of the Languages of Western Asia and Europe, with an Explanation of the Principles on which Languages are Formed." This dictionary is lightly soiled and light foxing on 1,512-pages. This 150-year old dictionary is Not a re-print, well maintained over the years with No Book Repairs noticed. The covers have some leather missing on the corners, numerous light scratches, and some nicks along the edges.
