This is an Original 1859 Land Grant signed for President James Buchanan on 15 April 1859 by his secretary. In 1833 Congress passed a law allowing presidents to have secretaries to sign for them. The secretary wrote the President's name and then wrote their own underneath. I guarantee this document is authentic. It was for warrant No 60.244 for 120 acres in favor of Amos Wheeler, Private, Captain Horton's Company North Carolina Militia, Cherokee removal for the east half of the northeast quarter of section twenty and the south east quarter of the southeast quarter of section Seventeen in township twenty four North Range four east in district of lands subject to sale at Stevens Point Wisconsin containing one hundred and twenty acres. The said warrant having been asigned by Amos Wheeler to Marks G Wenger and his heirs. Recorded on Volume 95 page 185. It is in good condition but does have folds. The back has 60.244 17-24-4 which would have shown when folded.
