SUPERB RARE ANTIQUE TURKISH KUTAYAH VILLAGE PRAYER RUG (Seccade), Western Anatolia, near Ushak, Circa: 1860-90, and in remarkable full pile condition for its age. The exact size is: 3'-3" x 4'-6" (99 x 137 cm). This rare Kutayah prayer rug comes to the market in an impeccable state of preservation. Only the original top and bottom plain weave kelim endings are missing. It still retains its original eight-cord side overcastings (see close-up photo). it has 100% natural dyes with superb yellows, blues and greens and a lovely shade of expensive cochineal (insect-derived) raspberry red field and border ground color. Just a superb little collector's antique prayer rug. Absolutely NO rips, holes, tears, wear areas, repairs, moth bites, pet stains, odors, color run, or any problems at all. Just professionally cleaned to museum standards. Lies flat and straight on the floor, or immediately usable as a nice table rug or (please) as a wall hanging. These types were made in antiquity for local use as an item of religious devotion, not as commercial utilitarian floor rugs. More often than not, they were hung on the wall or brought out of storage and displayed for special occasions. It was woven with the highest quality wool and dyes available at the time to the weaver. It is soft and supple in the hand. This particular specimen has been lovingly cared for over a long period of time. Fresh to the market from source village acquisition. Note the presence of four water pitchers or ewers in the field, a symbol alluding ritual cleansing.
