Historic original CDV (carte-de-visite) photograph of an early Knights Templar member in Castile, New York posed in full regalia in the late 19th century.

This is a vintage matte albumen photo mounted on a 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" CDV (carte de visite) mat.

The photographer's imprint on the reverse side identifies the location as Castile, New York and the photographer as Geo. L. Washburn .

CDV photography began in 1854, although the peak years for carte de visite photography were 1859-1866. According to Collector's Guide to Early Photographs by O. Henry Mace, corners of CDV card mounts were typically rounded after 1871; this particular mount displays the earlier square cornered mount, which most likely dates this photo to the 1860s.

This CDV photo is guaranteed to be old and original .

Very collectible historic portrait of a Victorian era fraternal member in full regalia including his sword and other accoutrements!

The photo is in very good condition with slight fading to the image and light corner and edge wear to the mount.
