Antique handmade sheet iron tin that has been cut, bent and soldered to form a half cup size coffee mug with attached handle and retaining it's original old oxidized , darkened and dry surface, as found. Maine , 1860's, probably earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1/4 lbs. 1 7/8" tall by 3 1/8" top rim diameter. Antique handmade sheet iron tin that has been cut, bent and soldered to form a half cup size coffee mug with attached handle and retaining it's original old oxidized, darkened and dry surface, as found. Fine Civil War era form on this particularly well made and small sized "tin cup". The Winslow Homer painting of the soldier blowing on his hot coffee in a tin cup at camp side is the best proof that these "were really used". New England farmers used them too. This one, because of it's small size and dainty elegance... may have been used by the farmer's wife for HER coffee. In addition to the fine lines, this one is particularly finely made. It also so has a "nasty neat" quality to it; both in it making and in it's usage. Something in this cup is sending the message that this was someone's cup who knew very well that it was their cup for their coffee and they...took very good care of ...all of that. T is no proof for that other than the sense & soul message the little mug send when viewed & held. Very pleasing as an object. Very good as found condition. T is a minor & old surface rust spot on the bottom but otherwise the little tin cup is in perfect condition. Right out of the summer kitchen, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and very minor soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last month in an estate in Black Point , Maine . For those who have been following these listings we begin the listings from this estate. We will be listing from it for the next few months.
