Antique handmade & hand forged wrought iron hand held dough scraper of fine craftsmanship including it's classic square cornered triangular blade and classic pitch-angled teardrop handle retaining it's original old lightly oxidized usage polished surface, as found. The New England farm dough box was a rectangular canted side open top box with handle holes on the end generally about 30" wide by 16" wide. It may have had a cover, either made to originally accompany the box or fabricated later by home design. Generally the box was "brought in" to the kitchen for use very regularly from being stored, generally, in the summer kitchen. "Dough", generally for bread but including pie, cookie an any baking "dough", was "mixed" in the dough box, "rested" in the dough box and then taken out of the dough box, finished and baked. At the moment of the dough removal from the dough box this hand held steel tool, having perfection of blade width, hand form, handle angle and balanced weight in addition to being shiny sharp steelâe¦ was used toâe¦ very quicklyâe¦ "scrap" the dough box for the last of the dough. A moment of clean out and gleaning, this âe¦remarkably perfectly designed toolâe¦ exquisitely accomplished the task, was set aside to be washed off and then stored until the next one minute dough box "scrap". A "dough scrapper" thus this is and a classic one at that. These were, too, used (and may still be used) on a "bread board" whenâe¦ making pies. That actually is w this cataloger saw, himself, actual usage; making pie crusts. Maine kitchen pie production was & is serious business that has long out lasted bread and biscuit making. The baker's hand, once familiar with the dough scrapper's perfections of blade size, handle balance and working angle, becomes addicted to it as a tool. Set of to the side it's called into play with each pie's top and bottom crusts; the trimming of the crust edges around the pie plate, the scrapping of the board and the gather of the trimmed dough. Addicting, this quality tool is stunning to use for not only does it work extremely well but t absolutely is something phenomenal about the ratio of it's design perfect to it's actual usage that an actual user âe¦never forgets. Handy, clean, hefty and perfectly formed for the tasks, if one fusses with dough, one will delight in using this very clean and nearly perfect antique dough scraper. Very good as found condition. Aside from lightest and appropriate usage wear to the square corners of the blade (the region of greatest precision contact when scraping the dough box) and lightest and most minor surface oxidation, the dough scraper is in fine untouched original condition, as found. It may be put back in use right away. Right out of the jumble in an old kitchen drawer, the dough scraper has appropriate & lightest surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old Maine farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last August in an estate in Montville , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics?
