Antique small handmade pine wood, boot jack end, square nailed, cut corner cricket style footstool retaining it's original old shellacked surface over it's original old red paint in fine original condition, as found. Maine , 1860, possibly earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 2 lbs. 15 5/8" long by 6 7/8" deep by 5 1/8" tall. Antique small handmade pine wood, boot jack end, square nailed, cut corner cricket style footstool retaining it's original old shellacked surface over it's original old red paint in fine original condition, as found. Delightful, charming, "cute-as-a-button" and in fine original condition we found this bedroom footstool or cricket sitting just as it should; just under the "Old Four Poster", a large 1840 style cannon ball bed in an upstairs front bedroom. Generally used once in the evening to step up into the large bed and kept just under that bed for decades, these petite New England gems have always delighted collectors. This stool has fine, light and crisp lines with cut corners on it's sides, deep boot jack cutout, carefully fitted joints, square nails and white pine wood all topped with the original old shellacked surface upon it's earlier classic old red paint. This stool was used for decades and displays this usage with a fine and evenly worn top surface that leaves the nail heads slightly raised from the wear to the top wood. The smooth surface is from old dry shellac that was probably done about 1890-1900. This is upon the original dry old red paint that was the original Civil War era surface. On the bare under side of the top are faint carved capital letter initials. The small size, pleasing form, crisp lines, clean & well preserve surface in fine all original condition make this little cricket footstool a cutie. Very good as found condition. The footstool is in perfect condition. T is minor and appropriate edge wear to the painted pine from actual usage. Right out of the house, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and very minor soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last August in an estate in Montville , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in an upstairs bedroom. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this extremely pleasing classic New England footstool or cricket for $4.99 NR.. |
