Antique handmade small, handled, thick split wood sewing basket with it's original old light shellac surface, original old splint rim decoration and retaining it's original old dry surface, as found. Maine , 1860's. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1/2 lbs. 13" long by 10" wide by 5 ½" tall at the top of the handles. Thick wood splints that have been cut, bent and woven to form a small handmade handled sewing basket with it's original old light shellac surface, original old splint rim decoration and retaining it's original old natural age toned & dry surface, as found. Up attic and put t long ago we found this fine and pleasing old sewing basket with a few sewing accessories we are listing separately. Old, finely made and "just nice" this one may do service again with anyone's sewing, may stand alone as an old basket on display or may go "center table" with fresh apples. It could even be filled with nuts and a nut cracker for the holidays for it is that versatile and that pleasing to the eye. This is beautifully and carefully made, probably a single special effort made on the farm, finished in secret and given as a gift. All aspects convey that this was a special basket from it's inception. To our eye, the thick splint, the small size, the splayed form, the raking handles with their extra fine carving and the special wrapped top edge set this one well above the average sewing basket. It's a great one we won't find again so don't miss out. Very good as found condition. The basket has old damage on the special wrapped rim band. This is all old use damage. It's missing a 4" section, another ¾" section and has five breaks. Again all of these are on the rim band, old and from use. Otherwise the basket is in perfect condition. This is wonderfully formed early sewing basket. Right out of the attic, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and very minor soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last week in an attic of a coastal fishing farm near Friendship, Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the attic. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this fine early sewing basket for $4.99 NR.
