EARLY AMERICAN PRESS GLASSBOWL ON FOOT - COMPOTE SANDWICH LOOP aka GAINES PATTERNBOSTON AND SANDWICH GLASS COMPANYFLINT GLASSc1860I SHIP WORLDWIDE Being offered in this sale is an early American pressed pattern glass - EAPG - footed bowl or compote in the Sandwich Loop aka Gaines pattern that was made by the Boston and Sandwich Glass company circa 1860. You can find this same compote illustrated in The Glass Industry In Sandwich - Volume I by Barlow/Kaiser on page 156, plate 1157. It measures 8" tall and is 8" in diameter. It was pressed in two piece and joined by a wafer of glass which you can see in the third image. The glass is BELL-TONE flint glass that resonates when you tap it with your finger. The color is white/fiery opalescent. The opalescence can be seen in the foot w the glass is not as thick and when viewed in direct light. The thickness of the glass in the bowl makes it more milk white than opalescent. The CONDITION is OUTSTANDING. On a scale of one to ten this is definately a ten. T are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or evidence of grinding. Finest possible example. Whether the focus of your collection is colored American flint glass, Sandwich Glass or this particular pattern you will not be disappointed. Please feel free to email with any questions. I always guarantee everything that I sell to be as described. read more
