Antique handmade cut, bent, soldered and painted sheet iron tin sugar or spice shaker with it's original old light blue paint with painted gold band decoration, it' original hollow fill handle with an old cork in it and retaining original old usage worn and age toned surface, as found . All Maine kitchens had and used shakers like this one. All. Pies received a shake on the crust. Pudding received a shake and into the oven. In an active baking kitchen t were numerous shakers around, each with a designated content. This kitchen tool is how the sugar got on the cookies and how the cinnamon got on the pumpkin pies. Kept only slightly full (never completely full) to allow both reduced weight and easy application, each held it's own topping for decades of actual use. This shaker is different from the standard form we usually find and offer. It is painted blue with two painted stripe bands of gold paint as decoration. Usually the shakers we find are a plain japanned surface. Also, this shaker has an attached hollow handle that is used to fill the shaker. The usual shakers we find have a thin bent tin strip handle and are filled by pulling the shaker top off. Is this then a professional's shaker purloined from a bakery? It certainly is an innovation over the usual shakers we offer. The old blue paint is a stunning color pop. That alone attracts our eye but the novel mechanics of the fill handle then becoming a shake handle are entertaining to the eye too. Very good as found condition. The painted surface on the outside of the shaker has considerable appropriate use wear from actual Maine farm kitchen use. One may say that it is perfectly & positively worn for an "old surface". Otherwise the shaker is in perfect condition. The cork in the end is old but it probably is not the original cork. It could be the original but it is presumed to be a replacement. It has an older chip on it that has worn smooth. Right out of the farm house kitchen, the old blue painted shaker has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and very minor soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last August in a farm in Montville , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our listings from current estates in our Ebay auctions, please check our Ebay store for selections from our business stock and please check our Ebay ME page for calendar updates. This was in the main household kitchen. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this attractive and unusual handled tin shaker in it's original old blue paint for $4.99 NR.
