Antique handmade cut, bent, soldered, riveted, japanned and tole paint decorated sheet iron tin sugar or spice shaker with it's original old japanned finish, outstanding original tole paint decoration , interior old contents and retaining original old dry farm soiled surface, as found. Maine , 1860's, probably earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1/2 lbs. 4" tall by 2 1/2" bottom diameter. Antique handmade cut, bent, soldered, riveted, japanned and tole paint decorated sheet iron tin sugar or spice shaker with it's original old japanned finish, outstanding original tole paint decoration , interior old contents and retaining original old dry farm soiled surface, as found. We will not find another one of these tole decorated so don't miss out. This must be very scarce with it's tole painting. All Maine kitchens had and used these spice shakers. All. Pies received a shake on the crust. Pudding received a shake and into the oven. In an active baking kitchen t were numerous shakers around. This kitchen tool is how the sugar got on the cookies and how the cinnamon got on the pumpkin pies. Kept only slightly full (never completely full) to allow both reduced weight and easy application, each held it's own topping for decades of actual use. This shaker sets itself apart by still retaining it's old contents, firmly hardened into the bottom quarter of the shaker. It further elevates itself with it's wonderful tole painted decoration. Two flowers dominate the main shaker body. On the âe¦unusually sturdy riveted handleâe¦ t is a brushstroke of yellow. The lid rim has a fine yellow chain around it's edge and t are three brushstrokes at the center top of the lid. Very good as found condition. The japanned surface on the outside of the shaker has very minor and appropriate usage wear from actual Maine farm kitchen use. The whole shaker is summer kitchen soiled from a century of disuse. The whole exterior of the shaker is age tone darkened. This is a fine old dry original surface and one should be very, very hesitate about attempting any cleaning for one may ruin this surface. This is a remarkable decorated shaker in wonderful un-touched condition. Again; we will not find another one so don't miss out. The lid can be easily removed but the content is hardened inside and will not come out easily. Right out of the farm house summer kitchen, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last August in the summer kitchen of a Montville , Maine estate. Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the summer kitchen. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this scarce tole decorated tin shaker for $4.99 NR.
