Ambrotype of 1860's Girl and Her Dog: No Reserve For Rare Item: This auction is for a rare ambrotype of a girl, probably 8 or 9, wearing a Mona Lisa smile, locket around her neck, attired in traditional mid-century garb, and occupies a unique posture that shortens her torso in the image. The dog (hound or terrier) is sitting astride his own chair and looks directly into the lens of the camera. T is a sense of companionship and personality in this picture and it is rare to find an image of an animal that dates from this period that reflects both the clarity and personality of this photo. T are no spots or blemishes on the picture. The image is framed by elaborate gold leaf that has no tarnish and has a beautiful floral motif. The case is gutta percha, showing some slight wear around the edges, with a solid hinge and elaborate design of floral motif. The red velvet opposite the picture is in great condition adorned with patterned flowers in the material. The clasp is in great shape and the only flaw in the piece is a slight separation on the outside of the case of the material at the bottom, as pictured above.
