Offering an as found, heavy antique, early Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, blown molded, Engraved, Panelled Bullseye Oil Lamp, circa 1860. Let’s start with the base which appears to be marble. There are a couple of tiny flake-like chips on the bottom outside edge acquired over its long life. It’s a two tier marble base decorated with a ½” tier of what appears to be the dazzling Original gilt bronze, or ornate ormolu finish. The bold, antique brass column shaped stem has vertical ribs and a two tiered base. Attached to the top of the ornate brass column is a beautiful, blown molded,Wheel Engraved, Panelled Bullseye oil lamp font. The quality glass font is near perfect with the exception of some imperfections and tiny seeds (bubbles in the glass) that occurred during the blowing process. A unique characteristic is that the top opening is not quite centered which adds to its uniqueness and charm. The wheel engraved designs are of fine quality. This gorgeous lamp is 13” tall to the top of the early, brass, No. 2 collar which is tight and perfect. Attached to the antique, fine line collar is a period antique, No. 2 oil lamp burner that oil lamp authority “Russell” describes as “one of the first prong type burners”. There is one tiny dent on the twist-to-lock-in-place cone. The wick ratchet turns smoothly. There is an oil wick. The thumb read more
