Handmade and hand carved pine wood, paper covered, painted & paint decorated child's horse pull toy with it's original old dry surface untouched and as attic found. This is an endearing attic find. It is a classic child's horse pull toy. The word quintessential may be used fairly for one needs to probe little in the subject of antique toys to find young one after young one dutifully companioned with a horse pull toy so as to be a standard icon of children and old toys. Victorian era portrait canvases HIGHLIGHT the inclusion of pull toys with their young subjects. One must note the visual enhancement of these canvases with that inclusion and further note that it is the folk art qualities of the pull toy that makes this contribution. Why? Because the horse pull toy, as with the one we offer , is, IN FACT, a smoke & mirror art fabrication! T IS THE SOURCE; this fundamental fabrication SHODDINESS, of the pull toy's GREAT ART QUALITY they offer the art eye. Paper, whittled wooden sticks, glue, paste, wood & leather bits, dibbed, dabbed, sprayed, sponged & finely brushed painted decoration upon active color painted base coats ALL combined to purvey a core feather weight MINIMAL of ALL materials used... to create fragile balloon like inflations so precarious that all usage, all moisture and all handling begin to DESTROY the toy at it's moment of completion. It is, of it's make, a wonder to dazzle the eye with the LEAST amount of work and material. Stunning thus. This delicate fabrication process merges with the pull toy's iconographic art history to be an "IT" of what antiquarian intrigue IS. Very good as found condition. Aside from normal surface oxidation, attic dust soiling, minor actual child usage wear & tear the pull toy is in fine carefully played with a long time ago condition . The only flaw is that the paper body is loose at the wood stick legs so pulls up ¼" when the toy is lifted from the top. This happened a long time ago and does not affect the toy nor should be considered to be damage. This is fine attic found horse pull toy in fine attic found condition even down to the old pull string. Please see photographs. As found last month in an attic of a coastal fishing farm near Friendship, Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the attic. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this classic early horse pull toy for $4.99 NR.
