These major parts of a 12 MM 1850's PIn Fire revolver were purchased back in the 1950's by a collector of Civil War relics from an elderly woman living near Chancellorsville Virginia. She told him that a member of her family had found this relic lying out in one of their family's farm pastures shortly after the famous 1863 Civil War Battle of Chancellorsville and that it had been kept as an interesting conversation piece in her family ever since. Pin Fire revolvers of this type were carried as personal firearms by soldiers and officers in both the Confederate and Union Armies. In fact a very fancy Pin Fire revolver was carried by General Stonewall Jackson who was mortally wounded at Chancellorsville. This is not a complete or fireable revolver. Even if you could somehow find the obsolete cartridges which have not been available for well over 100 years! Its days as a shooting piece are long gone. It is missing the lower half of its folding trigger, the main spring, the screw that holds the barrel assembly to the frame assembly and the cartridge ejection rod. It cannot be made to fire and is useful only as an interesting relic and conversation piece or possibly as spare parts to restore another gun. But why would you want to scrap what is left of this relic given its interesting history? The considerable damage to the revolver is old and consistent with its having been either hit from the front by a small hard object or being dropped and hitting a hard object or surface. This quite possibly explains why it was found out lying in a field shortly after the battle. What is left of the original revolver is in excellent condition. All metal parts have a wonnderful rust and corrosion free soft aged patina. It still retains its original loading gate and hammer. The wood grips are complete and very nice looking, What is left of the revolver parts can be partially reassembled into a reasonable representation of what the original revolver looked like before the fatal damage that knocked it out of commission. It would make a nice display in a frame or shadow box. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions you might have before bidding, thank you. Note that this item was recovered on what is still private family owned farm land near the Federal Battlefield back in 1863. It was leaglly recovered and is legal to own. It is a non-firing portion of an antique pistol. NOTE: This gun is incapable of ever becoming a firearm, it is only suitable for display! It is in full compliance with EBAY policies for selling objects of this type.
