This is an 1860s Flint Glass Frosted Roman or Greek Key Compote with Wafer Construction . It is 6 3/4" tall, the bowl is 7" in diameter, and the base is 3 7/8" in diameter. The metal is brilliant and crystal clear and in direct sunlight sparkles like a diamond. When tapped it has an incredible bell-toned ring that lasts for what seems like forever. It has period wear to the foot that is so thick you can see it through the top of the base. There are a few bubbles, but only a few, and there's some flaking and roughness around the inside rim of the base, but that is typical of period flint glass. After all, it's been sitting on tables for over 150 years so is bound to have some wear other than the scratches on the foot. The wafer is well proportioned and is put on in just the right way so that at the bottom of the bowl in the center there's a slight 'push up' of glass where the glass of the bowl was pushed up as the base was attached. And there is a small area on the rim of the bowl where the glass is slightly uneven. It has all the signs of a period, Civil War era piece of flint glass.
