Antique handmade sheet iron tin basin or milk pan with a particularly bright exterior tin surface in addition to retaining it's original old surface. Maine , 1860's, probably earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1 1/4 lbs. 3 1/4" tall by 11 3/4" diameter at the top. Sheet iron tin that has been cut, bent and soldered to form a basin or milk pan with a particularly bright exterior tin surface in addition to retaining it's original old, dry surface, as found. We found three basins or milk pans in this estate, each a different size. Setting milk out in the "buttery" (a small, tightly constructed very clean bare wood room usually to the north side of the home) in a tin basin such as this gives us "milk pan". A row of these filled with fresh milk on a clean pine board shelf in a very clean plain room is one of the majestic icons of New England pioneer living. This basin could have held milk but more frequently they held bread dough or dish water or corn meal to be mixed or dirty tired feet to be washed... . It was kept clean for all of these uses. Very clean. Basin # 3 is the smallest of the basins we are listing. Not only does it have no old repairs but it is in remarkably shiny condition on the exterior and bottom of the basin. This one was used very little and has been nearly perfectly preserved A popular size of basin; it was most often used as a utility basin in the kitchen but did often display apples on the table too. By chance, this one saw little service so retains a notably shiny tin surface as well as having the full original solder rest buttons on the bottom. These four buttons on the bottom were applied to raise the basin from direct contact with the table surface. This milk pan is the real thing; it was really used but... used very little... for decades in an old Maine farm. Very good as found condition. . T is a single old 1 ½" line dent on the side of the basin. It's been t along time. Otherwise the basin is in perfect condition with a particularly shiny exterior surface.. Right out of the summer kitchen, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last week in a coastal fishing farm near Friendship, Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the kitchen. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this old sheet iron basin or milk pan for $4.99 NR.
