Superb 1860s albumen stereoview by scarce but historically important maker H.F.Warren,Watham,Mass. of the White House in Washington,D.C. from his "Views in Washington,D.C." series.Beautiful view of the White House with a lone man wearing a stove-pipe hat walking in front of the White House.Warren is known as the photographer who claimed to have made the last portrait President Abraham Lincoln.I would assume that this view was made during the trip Warren made to D.C. in March of 1865. Regarding the portait of President Lincoln by Warren; âeoeThe most unusual photograph of President Abraham Lincoln, and his very last, was ... [taken] in the White House itself on a windy Monday afternoon, March 6, 1865. It was during the closing days of the Civil War that Henry F. Warren, a photographer from Waltham, Massachusetts, attempted to obtain a pass to photograph the Union forces in front of Richmond. He arrived in Washington in time for Lincolnâe(tm)s second inauguration when the historical importance of photographing the president occurred to him.
