You are bidding on a very rare 3 piece grouping. A Civil War Letter dated August 16, 1861, an old American Flag and a tin type photo of the soldier who wrote the letter. The photo shows the soldier holding a musket AND a Remington or Colt revolver. The letter has a couple of tears along the creases w it was once folded over the years. We were able to interpret almost all of the content . The words we were unable to read, are marked with a ___? All three items were in an old shadow box that was too far gone to try to keep. We have since placed the items in a showcase that you can see in the photos. The photo is a 1/6th plate tin type. The cover to the case is missing. We have removed the photo from the case and t is nothing written on the back. It is a great image depicting the soldier with a Musket, bayonet and revolver. The Flag measures 11 1/4" wide by 7 1/2" tall. It is in overall good condition. The letter reads as follows: Rolla August 16,1861 Dear Father, I received a letter from you while I was on the train going from St. Louis to Rolla. We left at about 3 o clock on Wensday morning and arrived at Rolla at 5 in the evening, we have left for the purpose of joining Seigles ( sp? Siegels) army he is expected every hour, Lions (sp? Lyons) is dead but Mccollough (sp?McCulloch) is not as has been reported so those say who was in
