An original Ames 1862 Naval Cutlass used in the Civil War dated 1862. The rest of the markings are worn off but the 62 is quite clear. The blade is 26 inches long with a nice grip and replaced wire. The guard has had some period repairs indicating it was used during battle. The scabbard is an aged replacement scabbard and looks good with this cutlass. Blade is bright no active rust. Some pitting and discoloration due to age. Nice early piece.
