Original leather blindstamped binding withn deisgining, light wear, mostly just to edges, all page edges gilt, working bass clasp. Pages light foxed, last page with some faded stamps, front has some papers glued down on the EPs with a super interesting message from a soldier in the field hospital in Quincy, Illinois, 1863,"August 23rd, 1863: On this day a soldier in this hospital I bought this book fr ten cents just one third the former cost. (undecipherabe) found the young mans reason for disposing of the book to be this, 'I am out of money and I can get for the money what I want' What was it? Cigars, foolish man...And to you Thomas C Brooks, my dear brother I present this testament, sell not your birthright for a mess of pottage but search the scriptures. From your brother, W. P. The site’s access to the Mississippi River allowed for the easy transport of wounded soldiers from battlefields in the south. This was probably where Brooks was.
