Civil War LetterThis letter was written by 34 year-old Amelia Frances (Stone) Moorhead (1828-1890) to her 37 year-old husband, Robert Monroe Moorhead (1825-1881) who served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. H, 3rd Mississippi State Troops according to Confederate Service Records. In this letter, however, Amelia has placed her husband in Co. I, 2nd Regiment State Troops.In either case, these were state militia "minute men" organized in May 1862 to be called out to defend the state. They were technically not mustered into the Confederate State services, but were subject to orders of Confederate officers.Mary was the daughter of John Stone (1795-1841) and Malinda _____ (1800-1873).Mary and Robert were married in December 1853 in Marshall County, Mississippi.Amelia and Robert MoorheadTRANSCRIPTIONAddressed to Lieut.
