Please see item description below. 1863 Appleton's Railway and Steam Navigation Guide. This Civil War era Railroad guide is packed full of information about the period of history when Railroad were in their infancy. Contains Index's to the railroads, their terminal stations, and the railroad system maps. Index's to the advertisers, General ticket agents, and even the principal city's and towns serviced by the railroads. It has 289 pages with tons of timetables, and system maps, even a brief history of the Railroad it depicts. I especially like the advertisement on the back cover where the Illinois Central RR is selling farm/city/industrial land for $8 to $12 per acre along the seven hundred mile length of their track. The guide booklet is 5 inches by 7 inches. The front and back covers are totally loose, the majority of pages have edge wear and many have the corner of the page folded back on itself. But even with all the damage it is still mesmerizing to look back into the first days of many of the railroads we love.
