"..............I sent a lot of Doctor's implements with Captain Andrews t o leave with John Bush for him to give to some of our folks. They are all very nice ones for they are secess h. take good care of them fo r they are very costly. Emily, if I was in your place, I would not write to Mr. G W. Hakes, as he takes the pains to show your letters to everybody that come handy, and that is not all. I have been told by the captain of his very own Company that he was in jail for stealing horses, but I don't know how that is, but one thing. I do know he is on extra duty nearly half of his time and is thought, but little of by his Com rads. he is not the man I took him to be..........so, Emily, I advise you as a brother not to have anything to do with him at all..............I wish you could see Lieutenant Wilkes, of Company H. He could tell you all about him. I sent my wat ch with him to Pe oria to get it fixed.............." Letter
