Up for Auction is this 1863 Johnson's Family Atlas, published by Johnson & Ward Co. All the maps are numbered and are intact. First six pages are getting loose from spine (see picture 3). Only two sets of maps are partially detached from binding, and are more worn than the others. They are maps 47-48 & 85-86. Small tear map 47. Maybe the family has a son in the civil war from Ohio (?) and was in the campaign area of Virginia? Who knows.... A few moderate ships on the edge and one tear on the page 47. Has a very Excellent Map showing forts and military posts of the time! Great Book for Civil War Buffs. Book also shows 1860 Census, including slaves. The Book binding still seems strong in most areas and the spine cover is intact, but getting loose. All the maps still have a crisp color to them and very little foxing. Many pages having no flaws at all. Cover of book & edges still strong, tight and very few wear marks. Over all, I would say for it's age, binding, spine, pages, etc...This volume is in Good Condition. CHECK OUT ALL THE PHOTOS FOR BEST CONDITION EVALUATION. Plus 3 bonus items! Found in between the pages are 3 fern leaves/stems. Completely dried & flat. They have done no damage to any of the pages. Very cool specimen of a plant that actually grew most likely sometime in the 19th century, maybe even during the Civil War or a poineer family headed west. Who knows, check it out.
