Melbourne, F.F. Bailliere, 1863. Ferguson 16380. Diary entries relate day to day exploration that made possible the Overland Telegraph from December 20, 1861 as he starts his journey from Adelaide other members of the party are given credit and discredit and the many trials and tribulations they encounter as their horses drop out and needed supplies must be left to keep light loads on the others, the names he gives to places are explained, their encounters with the aboriginals, and their attitudes to horses and such is refreshing.
