This is a circulated Second Series, Fifty Cent Note from the State of Alabama, issued at Montgomery January 1, 1863 during the Civil War.

Length: 129 Millimeter, Width: 65 Millimeter.

Face: #57780 • Plate O (A through O were used, so this is the last plate) • Large FIFTY CENTS at left end, Tree with Map of Alabama at center, small 2nd SERIES vertically (thus Cr #4) , ornate 50 Counter above portrait of Juliet Opie Hopkins, who provided medical care to southern soldiers at right. Blue 50 Cts overprint protector.

The Note: A circulated example, this one saw some use. It has a number of small tears, holes and some edge roughness. T are a few places w the acid in the original ink has eaten through and what appears to be an old mount on the reverse. But what interesting history this piece carries, it can tell you some fascinating stories if you take the time to investigate. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
