Compliments of Charles S. Stratton

Compliments of Savinia Warren Stratton

Genuine carte-de-visite (visitation card) of Mr and Mrs Tom Thumb, of Barnum and Bailey Circus fame. Charles Sherwood Stratton married Mercy Lavinia Warren Bump on Feb 10, 1863 at Grace Church in New York City. Their wedding picture, probably staged for this purpose, was used to make complimentary visitation cards, with their signatures in facsimile. He died in 1883 at age 47; she remarried and died in 1919 at age 78. The card was published by Anthony in New York, from a photographic negative by Brady (famous for his Lincoln photos).
