Two Cent Piece 1864 Obverse : WE in the motto is strong but the letters in IN and G in God have been reduced in sharpness and clarity but still full in form and easily recognized. In the photo, date is hard to see. All numbers are still full in form but are reduced in vertical relief. Leaves on either side of the shield are well defined in primary outline with some pits on the left side while absent on the right side. Inner leaf secondary detail is in isolated areas to the left of the shield while more widespread on the right. Perimeter of the shield is well defined but secondary detail is limited in terms of the scrolling and arrow feathers however more abundant inner shield bars are seen in the upper portion in contrast to the lower. Inner rims are almost complete, with some depth in scattered areas, while minor indentations are visible in isolated areas. Reverse: Inner rims are complete but become very thin near the indentation at the base (below the hanging ribbon). All lettering is well defined with some degree of sharpness. Wreath is well defined in primary outline, along with the lower bow ( knot hanging ribbons), with secondary inner leaf detail being observed on either side of 2 CENTS. Within the ribbon, secondary detail is limited to raised areas (producing a 3 d effect) along with defined perimeters of the knot. This coin read more
