Authentic United States Colored Troops Civil War Letter written from Vicksburg Mississippi on the 1st of March, 1865. The individual who wrote this was named Drury Cromwell and he was assigned to Company H, 5th Regiment, USCT heavy artillery. I am going to write the letter in this description since it does take some time to actually read the original because of it's age. is what he wrote: Sis, i seate my self to rite you a few lines to let you now that i am well hope thes few lines ma find you well i have express 3 three hundred and 80 eighty dollars to you and i wont you to give Elizebeth 10 dolars and past father 8 dolars and mother 15 and give Frank 1 one dollar for me and send word when you get the money i have seen heep of the world sence i left home (THIS NEXT PART WAS HARDER TO UNDERSTAND-MAYBE ONE OF YOU CIVIL WAR EXPERTS WILL KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS) To OPo Moe direct you letter to Co H Victbergh Missipia F regiment USCT heavy artillery direct to Vickburgh Missiasppia Co H 5 Regiment USCT heavy artilery to Drury Cromwell For it's age and what it must have been through, the letter is in remarkably good shape, paper is still strong. It does have one small hole about midway through the letter, looks like he crossed out a word and pushed too hard. If you are an avid civil war historian, especially in relation to colored troops, african american history, the history of the 5th regiment or the history of the Heavy artillery, this is a must have letter. Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping, any special packaging requested and it will be insured. Good luck bidding Also will be listing coutersign letter from the Army of the Potomac under command of Geo McClelland from 1862. Both of these letters were found when I purchased an original 1864 Ames Cavalry officer sword at at sale. Sword is for sale also. Almost forgot, I researched the 5th and this is what I found Organized from 1st Mississippi Heavy Artillery (African Descent). Designated 4th Heavy Artillery March 11, 1864, and 5th Heavy Artillery April 26, 1864. Attached to 1st Division, United States Colored Troops, District of Vicksburg , Miss. , to February, 1865. Unattached, Post of Vicksburg , Dept. of Mississippi, and Dept. of the Gulf to May, 1864. Please review my feedback for assurance of quality parts. Unfortunately in the last week I received my first negative feedback from a buyer in 9 years of ebaying. It is bound to happen to everyone eventually because I have found in 9 years t are some really strange people out t I thought this might happen with this auction since the buyer told me he had bought two other mustangs recently and was very displeased with bothâe¦.go figureâe¦ he didnâe(tm)t like mine either and I sell good ones!!! :0 This negative tied in with eBayâe(tm)s new feedback percentage calculator leaves me with a bad taste for this venue so starting in July I will no longer be selling through eBay, I will be moving my mustang projects and parts to Craigâe(tm)s List and would recommend to others who enjoy mustangs. Thanks to all my regular buyers and keep in touch, still have a couple more 69 Machs and FBs to sell.
