This issue also has the FAREWELL ORDER signed in type by Confederate General ROBERT E LEE , published after his surrender to General Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia- ending the Civil War. This lot also inclues an incomplete issue of the same newspaper title containing the April 15, 1865 issue with pages 3 and 4 only. Both pages are black bordered and have MUCH "breaking news" of the ASSASSINATION of ABRAHAM LINCOLN by John Wilkes Booth. United States President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, as the American Civil War was drawing to a close, just five days after the surrender of the commanding general of the Confederate army, Robert E.
