REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER OF PATENTS FOR THE YEAR 1862 ARTS AND MANUFACTURES VOLUME 2 WASHINGTON : Government Printing Office 1865 Being offered at auction is a Civil War era collection ofdiagrams of inventions submitted to the Commissioner of Patents for the year 1862. The entire book is a fascinating collection of prints for hundreds of various items new and to be “improved”. Of particular interest, for this Civil War period, are the number of listing for patents on for innovations and improvements on a host of military devices, including rifles, pistols, ordinances, ships and even uniforms. Many of these are fascinating concepts for the time. Also found are diagrams of patents for locomotives, artificial limbs, numerous manufacturing devices, farm equipment, tools and the like. Some simple, most quite technical. The diagrams are very well done and precise. CONDITION: 1865 publication for the year 1862 patent submissions. Hardbound in original black lightly blind-stamped boards with faded gilt titling to the spine. Boards and all pages are very tight. 6" x 9" tall. 446 pp. Hundreds of diagrams. Pages show age toning and occasional foxing. Light pencil inscriptions/names on the flep and front paste-down.
