1867-S PCGS XF Liberty half eagle $5 gold, VERY RARE, LESS THAN 100 KNOWN TO EXIST. here is a very rare San Francisco issue- only 29,000 were minted and very few survived in ANY grade. No survivors are known in mint state, making this a condition rarity as well. PCGS has graded only 75 and NGC has graded only 80 of these in all grades in the last 30 years and probably half of those were sent in more than once . the label says it's cleaned and we agree- it was cleaned long long ago and has formed a second patina that conceals it well- you would have to put a glass to it to see signs of a cleaning. this date comes with a weak strike, this one is a little above average with better detail than most XF's. the experts agree that there are less than 100 known to exist. these are usually found with all kinds of serious problems so if you want a presentable piece, this shouldn't disappoint. PCGS lists this at $2800 in XF and NGC lists it at $2850, much more than the price we're asking.early branch mint and low mintage dates are beginning to gain the respect they deserve as true rarities because they circulated so widely that there are very few left, and what is left is not in very good condition compared to other series. we've taken whatever we find get and then upgraded as better pieces presented themselves, it's the only way to fill a lot read more
