The New Testament Of Our Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ, Translated Out Of The Original Greek; And With The Former Translations Diligently Compared And Revised.” Printed and Published by William W. Harding, No. 326 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1868. There are 10 steel and wood engravings by Gustave Dore and other of the greatest painters. All the engravings are shown in our photos. 844 immaculate pages aged to ivory color with some pages darker, especially out the outer edges. Pages are gilt edged in all 3 edges. There are no bookplates, no signatures, and no marks in the Bible. There are no family pages in this Bible. The end papers are soiled. The Bible was bound with red hinge cloth along the hinge lines of the endpapers, which reinforces the heavy covers. The Bible is bound in supple brown Morocco leather with beveled edges on both covers. The matching cover have elaborately tooled decorations with a center raised sculpted lozenge in the center of the 4 raised gilt embellished panels that surround it. The spine has 5 very prominently raised bands and very prominently raised buttresses at the top and bottom of the spine with gilt titling in the second & fifth spine compartments and intricately decorated gilt work & gilt rule in the other spine compartments. At the top of the bottom raised buttress are the gilt words declaring this to be “HARDINGS EDITION”. Gilt filigree decorates the 3 edges of the covers, very classic touch. This is a beautiful Bible. Please see our many photos. The Bible has remarkably light wear. Bumps to the corners, intermittent scuffing along the edges, bumps to the top & bottom of the spine. The Bible is tightly bound, sits squarely upright and the hinges work well. This Holy Bible has been well cared for and loved in its 150 years and will be a cherished family heirloom for the winner of this auction. The very collectible “Jack Palance Collection 2006” is affixed on the left front coated white clam-shell-effect endpaper. This book came from the estate of Academy Award Winning & Emmy Award Winning actor, Jack Palance in Drums, Pennsylvania, where we purchased over 2,000 books and Jack Palance’s player piano over a 5 day period in October, 2006.
