Here is a great lot of antique ledgers. The larger leather covered ledger is a journal. The inside is marked Carters Account Book, opened Nov. 13 , 1869, Union Mills, PA. Interestingly enough, the first page of writing contains information regarding photographs and framing of photos from California. A lot of the entries seem to deal with framing, vignettes, ferrotypes, copies of photos and daguerreotypes. There are entries for more general store type items, but the bulk appear to be photography related. Later in the ledger appears a couple of estate listings, a listing of sheep accounted for in 1891, and what looks to be receipt of payments for lawyer costs, possibly. A very interesting ledger! Also included are 4 smaller ledgers covering the years of 1894-1898 or so, containing lists of names for a church and possibly the tithes collected, and one of the ledgers mentions Mercer, PA in the front. The leather ledger measures roughly 13” by 8 ½”. Pages vary, the leather ledger is numbered 385 pages and is about ½ full of writing.
