Item Photos DESCRIPTION Offered with NO RESERVE and starting at our usual low price is this really beautiful Victorian cup and saucer which, through research, I have managed to identify as definitely originating from the BROWN-WESTHEAD & MOORE factory, Cauldon Place, Hanley in the Staffordshire Potteries. The diamond registration lozenge on the base bears the code for 1st February 1869 and I found an identically shaped cup, also bearing the lozenge for the same date, in my 'Compendium of British Cups' book (see picture) - and Michael Berthoud has obviously either got a full factory mark on his cup, or has been able to trace that particular registration date, from official records, to the Brown-Westhead & Moore works. This beautiful teacup and saucer are so simple yet decadent and elegant, in pure white porcelain/china and with a twisted 'rope' knotted to form the four feet and continuing up to form the handle - all lavished in rich gilding - a really lovely set that I am sure would be WONDERFUL to drink tea from (but I have resisted!) SIZE - Pictures are MAGNIFIED to show detail, so please judge size by measurements The cup measures approximately 1 7/8 inches (4.7cms) in height x 3 5/8 inches (9.2cms) rim diameter. The saucer is approximately 5 3/8 inches (13.6cms) in diameter. CONDITION IS EXCELLENT with NO CHIPS, CRACKS, read more
