This is an original 1870s era Cabinet Card sized Stereoview Photograph from Wisconsin of "THE CIRCUS IN TOWN, CORNER OF W. WATER & GRAND AVENUE", listed at the lower right hand border area of the mount front as Number 931. It's a nice image of the Circus Wagons on Parade as they round the corner in front of the Miller & Holtz Restaurant, at what was known as "Best's Corner" in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at that time. T's a lot of nice detail to the Wagons and a variety of other antique automobiles and horse drawn wagons in this long perspective view of the street, which also shows many people lining the street and in front of the buildings as the Parade passes by. The SV photograph was taken by H. H. BENNETT, who Photographed Milwaukee and Vicinity, and was Published by J. C. Iverson & Co., of 425 and 427 East Water St. The condition is overall very fine with good contrast and resolution, and consistent tonal quality, showing only minor edgewear and tiny corner bumps. The reverse side is clean with only minor edge tanning, a couple of tiny spots, and a few small pencil notations to the borders. It measures approximately 4" by 6" plus borders. This is part of an interesting collection of vintage items, including Real Photo Postcard views of the Western United States, (including images of Alaska, Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Wyoming) , along with various antiques, photographic images and related ephemera that I'll be listing over the next several weeks on ebay at whipplesbooks, along with a series of unusual art and photography books, early issues of I.-D. fashion magazines, other collectibles and antique items, rare recordings including Trademark of Quality and other collectible vintage vinyl lps, other vintage magazines and bulletins, and a wide variety of other items of ephemera including miscellaneous vintage photographs, programs, and rare and unusual books and magazines relating to Fashion, Hollywood Memorabilia, Natural History, Machinery and Mechanics, Science, Geology, Art, Aviation, and so on. A couple of further notes in general, with respect to the requirements for bidders and potential winners of the auction, please be aware that payment by personal or business check will require a waiting period for the clearance of the check into my account, and overseas bidders take into account that these days the shipping charges can be somewhat higher with the inclusion of customs fees and value added taxes (when declaring full value for insurance purposes) in addition to the higher postal rates in general. I'm always flexible with respect to methods of shipping items to their new homes, and will pack the goods safely and ship them in a well-padded and protected container, and do not charge any sort of premium or handling cost for your packages, but winning bidders should note that although I do not insist on it, I still strongly recommend insurance for your items whenever available, since I can't be responsible for un-insured items that go missing or suffer some damage in transit, and that the cost of insurance coverage will be on a sliding scale naturally enough, with the amount determined based on the actual value at the auction's conclusion, so that it is always best to wait to hear from me with an invoice tailored to the specific outcome in every case, in order to save time and alleviate the need for re-calculating and sending a second invoice. read more
