Two handmade cut, bent, stamped and soldered sheet iron tin toy milk pails with their original wire handles & original lids retaining their original old oxidized darkened surfaces, as found. Maine , 1870-1880. Guaranteed old and original; these are not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight: ½ lbs. Each pail measures 5 1/4âe tall to the lid handle top and 2 1/4âe diameter at the base. Two handmade cut, bent, stamped and soldered sheet iron tin toy milk pails with their original wire handles & original lids retaining their original old oxidized darkened surfaces, as found. Adorable handmade farm toys, made by a tinsmith and probably given away to children on the tin peddler's route, these now delight the eye with their precise craftsmanship and attractive lines. They also delighted the former owner, the matron of the estate, who proudly displayed these in her front parlor as "I PLAYED WITH THESE WHEN I WAS YOUNG" "THESE WERE MY GRANDFATHER'S". Both verbal ultimatums are assuredly true. She also exhibited these as family mementos at local history displays. In fact I will note that the old matron actually did display a personal sentiment toward this pair; a âe¦just a little tinyâe¦ misty eye. For real. She was in person what we would call "wicked tough" but this cataloger did catch that ...just a tinyâe¦ when we reviewed these with her. They were absolutely on her list of "IN THE ESTATE". But she knew she could not take them with her. They are true toys and one may see the young one imitating the farm yard real milk tin goes to market daily with these; Dad's tin is full - MY tin is full, tin for tin, each day, every day. This play action on this farm would have continued through âe¦and a little afterâe¦ WW II soâe¦ that old matron truly did have HER tiny milk tins full and market ready TOO. Very good, as found condition. The tins are lightly attic soiled and age toned with each having a small spot w the matron had her exhibit labels. One lid does not go all the way down easily. It will go but we did not force it for fear of âe¦getting it stuck. It has a little surface rust on the lid rim. A little light oil and the problem would be corrected butâe¦ if it were our choice, we'd leave it just the way it is. Otherwise the tins are in first class condition and have no damage at all . Right out of the front parlor, they have appropriate surface oxidation, lightest wear and lightest soiling for their age and from their estate residence. Please see photographs. As found last August in a barn in Montville , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our listings from current estates in our Ebay auctions, please check our Ebay store for selections from our business stock and please check our Ebay ME page for calendar updates.. These were in the main house. We have done nothing to them at all; they are just as we found them. They look like good ones to us! We offer this fine old pair of toy tin milk pails for $4.99 NR..
