Albumen cabinet photo, "Ole Bull," circa 1870s, approx. 3.5 x 5.25 in. on a 4.25 x 6.5 mount, no backstamp, mild soiling, otherwise fine condition.A striking profile view of the famed violinist/composer. The photo appears to be an early "second generation" image (i.e., made from another photo). Bull (1810 – 1880), hailed as one of the finest violinists of the nineteenth century, was also one of Norway’s first international stars. Placed on a par with Paganini by no less an authority than Robert Schumann, Bull enjoyed decades of spectacular success on the concert stage and the esteem of such eminent colleagues as Franz Liszt Bull later settled in the United States and founded a “colony” in Pennsylvania. The measure of his fame was such that his funeral procession included hundreds of ships. PAYMENT/SHIPPING: Offered with no reserve!
