Superb 1870s original/vintage albumen cdv's (eight total) mounted on a larger period album page of Sisi or Empress Elisabeth of Austria,Queen of Hungary and her husband Franz Joseph I and three of their children along with two other princes plus two larger scenes on the reverse side. Sisi's children pictured include her daughters Valerie and Gisela as well as her beloved son Prince Rudloph who later commited suicide which drove her into deep depression and seclusion.We also have Prince Leopold at bottom left and Prince of Leichtenstein at top right.Nice period artwork at bottom center adds to the piece. The heavy period mount measures 12 x 8.5 inches overall with the Royalty albumen images all carte de visite size.The two scenes on the reverse side both measure 5 x 4 inches. Although she became Empress of Austria, Elizabeth of Wittelsbach (known by her nickname Sissy) was known throughout Europe for not behaving in the way a conventional empress should. Her life came to a tragic end when she was murdered in Geneva in 1898. She was born on Christmas Eve 1837 in Munich, the daughter of the Duke Maximilian Joseph of Bavaria and his wife Ludovika.
