1872Antique Vanity Fair Print SPY Cartoon of Baron Paul Reuter (Lot # VF346) You are looking at a fine caricature of Baron Paul Julius Baron von Reuter (1816-99) German -born British journalist and media owner, founder of Reuters news agency . 1845, Reuter moved to London . Returned to Germany leaving for 1848 Paris after the failed Revolution He founded Reuters News Agency in Aachen which transferred messages between Brussels and Aachen using carrier pigeons . 1851 moved back to London with an office near the London Stock Exchange and founded Reuters, one of the major financial news agencies of the world. 1857 naturalised as a British subject. Telegraph cable link between Dover-Calais, 1863 extended to Cork where ships coming from America threw canisters containing news into the sea. The news was telegraphed to London, arriving before the ships. 1858 major British broadsheets subscribed to news service. 1871 , the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha conferred barony . This is a genuine antique and original coloured Victorian lithograph. Publication Date : 14 th December 1872 Sub-titled: “ Telegrams ” Artist: Unsigned Condition: Good for its age.
